Furniture and household goods are classic items that people always seem to buy on credit. It makes sense. If you intend to stay in your house for many years then even if you have to buy something on credit then surely the cost of paying interest on the loan will more than be worth it if the value of your property goes up in the long term. You can then be forgiven for thinking that it was well eorth it.

I’ve always done it and my parents have always done it. I really do not see a problem with buy now pay later schemes. Not everyone has the money to go out and spend £2000 on a new sofa set. That is an awful lot of money to have to put down in one go.

My parents were your average middle class family. Both of them were civil servants and not fantastically well paid. They were very well organizec and would regularly by cars and other necessary consumer products on buy now pay later schemes.
Sure, they ended up paying more (unless an interest free deal) but at the end of the day they were able to organize their personal finances in manageable amounts and always made sure they would pay back on time.

Its amazing that companies are still offering buy now pay later finance. This is how we got ourselves into trouble in the first place with the recession and companies giving out too much free credit.

Its amazing how often the names of Exerian or Equifax appear nowadays. Before the credit crisis no one really heard much about these credit referencing agencies. Sure there were people that were bankrupts who would be certain to fail a credit check but generally banks and lenders were reasonably flexible. Its funny how times have changed. Loans, buy now pay later with bad credit schemes, its all very difficult.

Generally, if you are in a full time job and can prove you are not unemployed you are not going to get turned down for buy now pay later finance

Other online stores or shops that offer buy now pay later for those with bad credit include JD Williams, Jacomo and Isme Catalogue. Put into your google search cheap catalogues.co.uk – they list all the buy now pay later catalogues available in the UK

The article talks about plenty of stores in the UK that offer buy now pay later finance. Apart from Brighthouse, I have no idea of any other stores that specialise in buy now pay later for bad credit scemes. Could you tell me who they are?Claire

Try Brighthouse for a buy now pay later scheme. They are the market leaders for this type of deal and are highly recommended.

err, thanks for sharing your wisdom Mike_Sharp. What you are saying is obvious to anyone with at least half a brain. Just for the record, I have had bad credit for about two years now following a CCJ and I am only too aware that any decent lender will carry out a credit check. It’s only the payday/scumbag lenders that don’t carry out a credit check and instead carry out a status check.

What actually happens with all buy now pay later with bad credit finance is as follows for anyone who is interested. The main point is the difference between a credit check and a status check. If you have bad credit it is highly probable that you will be rejected for buy now pay later finance. The reason is the finance company that the store uses will do a check with a credit agency like experian. This takes time.

If you have bad credit you want to buy from somewhere that will only undertake a status check. For example they will check with your employer you are who you say you are on the application form.

Can anyone tell me the name of any buy now pay later stores except Brighthouse. I have been looking around the internet and brighthouse do a weekly payment schedule but there does not seem to be a very good choice excpet this company. There are store card places like debenhams but I want somewhere where you can pay weekly. Thanks Daz

I was talking to firend of mine who works for a bank and she advised me that even if you have a bad credit history the bank will still look to approve you for a loan or credit card. Don’t give up hope of finding a lender or a store which will offer credit even if you have a bad credit rating.
